Pension Increase & Upcoming Job Opportunities

A Year of Growth

This year, our labor and management trustees worked hard to achieve an incredible pension improvement that is second to none. Strong work hours, respectable investment returns, and continued responsible funding remain key to our long-term success. The entire board of trustees, both labor and management, worked together to deliver this important enhancement for our District Council 35 members.

You, our treasured DC 35 members, also deserve recognition. Your understanding of the issue, reflected in your vote to allocate additional funding to the pension plan, directly enabled this improvement. Because of your commitment, we will all reap the benefits for many years to come. If you have any questions regarding this change, please contact the DC 35 fund office.

Connecting to our Work Front

On the work front, I continue to be active in the communities we represent, for good job opportunities are essential to our success as a union. These opportunities do not arise from economic conditions alone; they come from persistent hard work by your leadership team, along with the active involvement of our membership. We remain engaged throughout the Boston metropolitan area, supporting responsible developers on large-scale redevelopment and construction projects. The Boston planning and development agency continues to approve major developments that will strengthen our future work opportunities.

 Exciting Projects

A recently approved BPDA project we are excited to start is a $5 billion, 36-acre Dorchester Bay City project, which has now received the green light on this massive mixed-use redevelopment and will last 10 to 12 years.

Major developments that are coming up include Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester, where developers have received final approval for plans that include seven large buildings just south of the JFK-UMass red line station on Morrissey Boulevard. This development is part of a massive mixed-use redevelopment, which is expected to span 5 to 7 years of construction. The first phase of work, featuring two residential towers, is anticipated to begin in 2026. The long-term development will represent continued growth and mixed-use employment prospects for our membership.

Together, through our collective work and staff dedication, we will continue to build a strong future for District Council 35.
