HELPING OUR AREA SCHOOLS BY MICHAEL LAFFERTY

 In Newsletter: Spring '21

As a result of the ongoing pandemic, the District Council 35 members in Boston and Quincy have been working extra hours sanitizing and wiping down all the common area in the schools, restocking the bathrooms, and misting all classrooms and office areas on a regular basis to maintain a healthy school environment for the students and staff. The members are also placing air purifiers and fans in the classrooms to help the movement of the air.

The work crews in Boston have been out working in a few of the Boston schools doing repairs and installations, like wooden floors at the Joseph Lee School, VCT floor tile at the Mattahunt School and Boston Latin Academy, and scraping and painting at the Endicott school. In the past the school department would have contracted these jobs out, but we are proving that the members can do the work just as well as an outside contractor. The school department is working with us on getting the members trained to do these projects and plans to give the membership more opportunities to work on these crews in the future.
