The Brockton Enterprise: Brockton workers reclaim ‘wage theft’ funds in settlement
Two Brockton men received more than $1,500 each as a result of the claims of tax misclassification and failing to pay overtime, which were filed with the Department of Labor against Quest Construction by four employees last year, with the assistance of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35, according to a spokesperson for the group.
In total, about 50 to 60 employees who worked for the “open shop” – meaning that the business is open to non-union labor – are eligible for the settlement funds, said the labor union, which also accused Quest Construction of threatening to report undocumented immigrant workers to federal immigration enforcement as a way to keep them quiet.
